JULIANNE IP

Biography

Short Bio

I came to Brown in 1971 and haven't left yet. I graduated in 1975 with a ScB in Biology then completed the 7-year continuum program and received my MD from Brown Medical School in 1978. I loved Brown so much I stayed to do my residency in Family Medicine at the Memorial Hospital Family Practice program completing the program there as chief resident in 1981.

Upon completion of residency I was a staff physician in the Urgent Care Unit at the Rhode Island Group Health Association which eventually became the Harvard-Pilgrim Health Plan. I served as Chief of the Urgent Visit/Trauma units for over 18 years. I also worked at Brown Health Services. Concomitantly since 1985, I had also been working as Associate Dean of Medicine for the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME). My role as Associate Dean for the PLME has evolved over the past 20 years but the majority of my time is spent advising students on their academic, personal and professional development. Given my interests in international medicine, one of my responsibilities includes overseeing the PLME/Alpert Medical School exchange programs and visiting international medical students. I am also a clinical associate professor in department of Family Medicine and teach in the first year medical Doctoring course and in the Summer School here at Brown for high school students.
