Professor of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences

Overview

Professor Cooper pursues research in experimental geophysics and experimental petrology.  The research pursued in his group encompasses experimental approaches to seismic attenuation; transient and steady-state flow of minerals and rock; structure and dynamics of silicate melts and glasses; phase equilibria; solid-state reactions; non-equilibrium thermodynamics; and application of petrology/geochemistry to the design and analysis of engineering materials.  Professor Cooper has held faculty positions in both engineering and Earth sciences and, too, has experience in industrial materials science research.
