Elsa Amanatidou holds degrees from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of East Anglia and King’s College London, UK. She joined the Brown Classics Department in 2001 after many years of working as language expert, teacher and teacher trainer, in Greece and the UK. Concurrently to her appointment as Senior Lecturer in Modern Greek, she served as Director of the Center for Language Studies at Brown University, from 2008-2014. She is an Associate for the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors and Pearson's chief examiner for national and international examinations in Modern Greek, in the UK. Her research interests include testing and evaluation, curriculum development, the integration of literature and the arts in foreign language curricula, multiliteracies, critical literacies, inclusive and engaged pedagogies and technology assisted and mediated language learning. In 2013 she introduced to Brown and taught for several semesters a long-distance course as part of a course-sharing initiative between Brown and Cornell. Elsa served as Executive Director of the Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning from 2016-2019. She has been elected to the Executive Board of the Modern Greek Studies Association several times and is currently serving as chair of MGSA's Undergraduate Studies Committee.
Elsa has been Director of Brown's MGS since 2016. She has taught Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced courses in Modern Greek, as well as content and Special Topics courses, a graduate seminar "Modern Greek for Classicists and Archaeologists, an undergraduate translation seminar and graduate seminars on MFL pedagogy.
