About RPO RPO is responsible for the administration of all Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) activities and the oversight of all other human and animal research protections activities such as educational programs, protocol database management, and compliance with policies and procedures. RPO provides weekly office hours, during which researchers may stop in to receive clarification of IRB and IACUC policies and guidance in preparing protocols for human research and animal use for presentation to the IRB or IACUC. RPO also conducts departmental workshops, which are carefully tailored to the specific needs of the department. Faculty, students and staff can request one-on-one meetings to discuss human research or animal use projects, or an RPO representative can provide small group seminars regarding human research protections and IRB processes or animal use and IACUC processes. These seminars are also customized to the needs of the group or department. Coordinated, responsive, and in-depth education and outreach programs are essential to strong human and animal research protections programs.
