About RPO

Mission Statetemt:

The IACUC acknowledges the importance of animals in research and our scientific and ethical responsibility for their humane care and use. We are committed to insuring the health and well being of the animals used in research and education at Brown University. To this end we use the regulations and guidance of such bodies as the US Department of Agriculture, National Institutes of Health - Office for Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), and the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care - International (AAALAC).

Administration:

Administrative functions are conducted out of the Research Protections Office (RPO) in the Hemisphere Building. Animal use applications and renewals need to be completed and delivered to the RPO or sent to Box 1986. One should generally allow 3 weeks for protocol review. Under unusual circumstances review time may be extended. Please address your administrative questions to the IACUC Coordinator. Please address questions regarding animal care to the Director of Animal Care. The campus veterinarians have their offices in the Animal Care Facility office in the BioMedical Center and are available for consultation and assistance on animal care and experimental questions.
