My research spans the disciplines of Linguistics and Cognitive Science. On the linguistics side, I study "information packaging", which addresses how speakers choose from among various options in formulating an utterance. With respect to cognition, I study how cues from information packaging guide language processing in real-time, especially how they help comprehenders to integrate multiple utterances into a coherent whole and to fill in the blanks when information is missing or underspecified.
