Biography

Professor Stallings is the Howard R. Swearer Director of the Watson Instiute, as well as the William R. Rhodes Research Professor, co-director of Brown's Graduate Program in Development, co-director of the Brown-Brandeis APEC Studies Center, and editor of Studies in Comparative International Development, a leading journal that is housed at the Institute. She is past director of the Institute's Political and Economic Development Program.

Stallings has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University. Prior to joining the Institute in 2002, she was director of the Economic Development Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago, Chile. She was previously professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she also served as director of the Global Studies Research Program, director of the Latin American Studies Program, and associate dean of the graduate school.
