KATHERINE SMITH

I am broadly interested in conservation biology, global change ecology, public health and environmental policy. The unifying theme of my research is the study of Conservation Medicine - an emerging interdisciplinary field that studies the link between anthropogenic environmental change, the health of all species, and the conservation of biodiversity. Within the purview of Conservation Medicine I am interested in three research topics: 1) the effects of disease on biodiversity, 2) the role of invasive species in disease emergence, and 3) the scope, implications and regulation of global wildlife trade. My principal approach in exploring these topics has been to test hypotheses using a combination of meta-analyses, theory and field studies.
