Professor of Modern Culture and Media and English Ellen Rooney studies the Victorian novel, literary and cultural theory, and gender studies. She authored Seductive Reasoning: Pluralism as the Problematic of Contemporary Literary Theory (1989) and edited the Cambridge Companion to Feminist Literary Theory (2006). Her new project, A Semiprivate Room, examines the "semiprivate" as it emerges in the classroom, the genre of "personal criticism," and the politics of the personal is the political. Rooney is the author of Seductive Reasoning: Pluralism as the Problematic of Contemporary Literary Theory and the editor of The Cambridge Companion to Feminist Literary Theory. She is Co-editor of differences: a journal of feminist cultural studies and Associate Editor of Novel: A Forum on Fiction, and she serves on the Editorial Board of Diaspora: A Journal of Transnational Studies.
