NEURONAL CALCIUM CHANNEL CLONES

Research in Dr. Diane Lipscombe’s lab is focused on the study of voltage-gated calcium channels in neurons. The function of these channels is to regulate calcium entry into neurons during membrane depolarization.  Understanding the mechanisms underlying the regulation of these calcium channels may have an impact on a variety of disorders that have been linked to neuronal calcium channels, such as ataxia, epilepsy and migraines.

The major focus of Dr. Lipscombe’s research has been examining the role of alternative splicing as a mechanism for the regulation of calcium channel activity.  Through the course of this research Dr. Lipscombe has generated a number of calcium channel clones and cell lines that are available for license.
