Acoustic Magic is a start-up company based upon “beam-forming” technology developed by Drs. Harvey Silverman and Michael Brandstein of Brown University’s Division of Engineering. The company produces and sells a microphone array device which is employed in applications such as voice recognition for full vocabulary dictation as well as voice control, teleconferencing, meeting recording, and security surveillance. Enabled by modern semiconductor technology, the microphone array device is comprised of a string of microphones that process speech signals from the direction of the individual speaker(s) while simultaneously canceling out background noise coming from other directions. The “Voice Tracker™” microphone array device has “steering” capabilities, enabling the device to automatically locate and electronically steer a “listening beam” towards the speaker, allowing the speaker mobility to move around the room. Additionally, it provides effective reception for multiple speakers on a conference call who can be heard clearly from dispersed locations in a room (i.e., surrounding a table). The microphone is far ranging and also contains proprietary algorithms that filter out background noise and reverberations. The device can be placed in the center of a table for conference call applications or can be mounted atop a computer monitor for speech dictation applications. The Voice Tracker™ is sold through Acoustic Magic’s online store and also through a variety of online resellers. Additional information is available at www.acousticmagic.com. |
